The Shelter Director oversees all aspects of CCC’s emergency shelter and Peace Wing transitional living programs, ensuring safe, trauma-informed, and supportive services for residents. This role supervises shelter staff, coordinates operations, ensures compliance with grant and policy standards, and collaborates with other departments to promote continuity of care. The Shelter Director is responsible for maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for both clients and staff. The position requires a cooperative team spirit, a supportive attitude, a desire to help people, and a strong sense of personal boundaries.

Duties:

1. Oversee shelter operations in collaboration with the Lead Shelter Advocate, focusing on scheduling, staff coordination, and resource needs.

2. Be available for on-call responsibilities

3. Supervise the Lead Shelter Advocate and provide overall leadership to the shelter team

4. Ensure shelter policies and routines are implemented safely, with support from the Lead Shelter Advocate in daily execution

5. Ensure programs are operated in compliance with agency, state, and federal guidelines

6. Collaborate with other directors to support seamless transitions for clients entering or exiting shelter

7. Ensure proper maintenance of physical sites as required by certification, funder, and safety codes

8. Monitor and order shelter supplies and food for shelter residents

9. Ensure trauma-informed, client-centered services are delivered consistently across shifts

10. Review client documentation and service plans for quality, accuracy, and compliance

11. Support case consultation and advocate coaching on complex resident needs or situations

12. Coordinate high-level or emergency client needs with the Director of Client Services

13. Exit clients as needed

14. Maintain compliance with grant requirements and certification standards related to shelter

15. Complete audits, inspections, and site visits in collaboration with the Grant Manager and Admin team

16. Ensure proper documentation practices and respond to data correction requests as needed

17. Oversee shelter facility standards, delegate day-to-day monitoring and reporting of issues to the Lead Shelter Advocate

18. Conduct regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and trainings for shelter team

19. Conduct monthly shelter staff meetings

20. Oversee onboarding and training of new shelter staff in collaboration with the Lead Shelter Advocate and Admin team

21. Manage time-off requests and ensure adequate shift coverage by weekly scheduling

22. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and wellness within the shelter team

Qualifications:

· Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, problem solving, customer service, and time management skills

· At least 2 years of experience in shelter or residential services preferred

· Experience supervising staff in a 24/7 setting preferred

· Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention preferred

· Ability to manage competing priorities and resolve conflicts effectively

· Ability to work independently

Physical Requirements

· The Shelter Director must be able to navigate the shelter facility quickly in emergency situations, assist with evacuations, respond to high-energy incidents, and perform tasks requiring physical mobility, including lifting up to 30 pounds, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Skills:

· Experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness

· Familiarity with federal grants

· Comfort using digital documentation platforms (e.g., EmpowerDB)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
