- Position Summary:
The person responsible for this position must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or must have completed, at least, the tenth grade and hold a GED. This person must be flexible and able to effectively maintain and supervise a classroom. This person must have a workable knowledge of child development, age and developmentally appropriate activities or be willing to attend seminars, conferences, or school to obtain the skills needed to perform this job. Must be willing to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and drive school minibus. The person responsible for this position shall adhere and support the mission of the O-Gah-Pah Learning Center.
The person for this position shall have:
Occupational childcare competency certificate for a master teacher or a lead teacher through an Oklahoma technology center and three months of satisfactory full-time experience in a licensed or legally exempt childcare setting.

A current Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) credential.
Certificate of Mastery in early childhood education or child development from an accredited Oklahoma college or university.
30 credit hours from an accredited college or university including 12 credit hours in early childhood education, child development or other coursework that supports working with children.
A four-year degree from an accredited college or university with six college credit hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), or coursework that supports working with children.
A two- or four-year degree from an accredited college or university in ECE or child development.
A valid teaching certificate in ECE from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
3. Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains constant supervision of children in care, supervises all activities to encourage participation and assure safety.
- Constantly circulates to assist children during all activities.
- Counsels or attends to children when social or academic adjustment is needed or out of control behaviors occur.
- Uses appropriate positive interaction when discipline problems arise.
- Interacts with all children in a nurturing and friendly manner, using a quiet in- control tone of voice and the child’s name along with making eye contact and touching child appropriately (examples: hand on child’s shoulder or elbow, holding the child’s hand, etc.)
- Treats each child with respect.
- Provides a well-balanced schedule, alternation of active and quiet activities.
- Writes and implements lesson plan. Five weekly activities based on the director’s curriculum.
- Takes responsibility for setting up lesson materials files and puts away teaching aids from previous lessons.
- Maintains appropriate communications with all staff, parents, and children.
- Maintains a classroom environment that is age appropriate and developmentally appropriate for each individual child taking into consideration the specific needs of the special needs children including the out-of-control behavior child.
- Follows all Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations, and OLC policies and procedures as listed in personnel policies including parent policies and procedures.
- Administers medications or makes sure child receives medicine.
- Stays in close contact with the director regarding special needs children.
- Sends home written communication, using “Daily Observation Form” provided, about each child’s day.
- Always maintains professional outlook.
- Attends staff meetings and recommended training workshops/conferences.
- Performs daily housekeeping responsibilities (sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing toys, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned by the director.
- Follows all policies and procedures in Quapaw Nation personnel policy.
4. Job Specifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To meet the educational requirements as stated, the employee agrees to begin obtaining CDA, CCP, Cert. of Mastery, college credit hours in child development after 90 days of hire date (may be delayed with director’s approval on a case-by-case basis). The time frame does not include the 20 hours required by the Department of Human Services which is 20 hours training in the first 90 days.
Experience: 2-year childcare, preferably.
Education: Must have high-school diploma, or GED, Certificate of Mastery in early childhood education or child development from an accredited Oklahoma college or university; current Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) credential; four-year degree from an accredited college or university with six college credit hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), or coursework that supports working with children, or two- or four-year degree from an accredited college or university in ECE or child development.
Physical Abilities: Be physically able to sit on the floor and stand for long periods of time, and to move around quickly as needed. Be physically able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds to chest height. Be physically able to climb and function within and around outdoor playground equipment.
5. Working Conditions:
The work may be performed inside and/or outside of childcare center.
